LSU Library Initiative aims to engage and encourage the youth to build libraries in low-income schools, orphanages and communities. Over the past year, LSU has complete libraries in Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi, North Balochistan, Quetta and currently in the process of setting up libraries in Dasht and Gilgit

Joy School

LSU volunteers did a phenomenal job in converting one of the corner of the room into a library.  The volunteers completely transformed it and made it into a magical space for students at the school. Since the library is a reading corner, it has floor seating. The volunteers have done an exceptional job in decorating the space with wall charts, 3D hangings, and canvases. However, what makes it even more special is the inclusion of children's work as part of the decor. In addition to books, the library has toys, stationery, and games for students to sit together to read, learn, and create.

Aalam Bibi School

The volunteers converted the school's old resource room into a library for the students. Situated between two classes, it is a fun space for children to read, learn, and create with their friends and classmates. Once a dull, dark space, it's now adorned with colourful paper lanterns, hangings, rugs, and fairy lights while the walls are covered with fun posters for the children. The book shelves have also been decorated with hand painted glass jars, which were recycled and painted by the students at the school as their contribution to the library.

They painted the room, added decorations and benches, and floor cushions so students at the academy can organise  library sessions, book clubs, and various other activities. The most impressive part of the library is the wall art, which includes a big tree with long branches covering the reading corner. It acts as a reflection of the exciting community space at the academy. Leaders Academy Library is the most incredible transformation we have seen so far!

Garage School

The school's original library was revamped by combining the original library corner and the adjacent activity room into a library. The LSU volunteers played a vital role in sorting over 4000 books into categories and painted the room in accordance to the underwater theme finalized for the space. They painted the room light blue and added multicolored fish, sea creatures and under water plants, making the room absolutely phenomenal.

Crescent School

A group of volunteers converted one of the classrooms into a multi-purpose space by setting up a library and activity room. The room was adorned with posters, alphabet cutouts, and charts, while the adjacent corridor was utilised to keep games and sports items  so it could be used as a play area / activity room for students in primary grades. The volunteers also conducted a book drive and collected books suitable for the school. A bookshelf was also arranged to place the books that were sorted, categorised, and tagged.

Chaprote Community Library

Bridge School MGH Branch

The LSU volunteers from mainly IBA and various other schools / universities across Karachi came together to convert one of the school's rooms into a library. It is a cool space for students to read, learn, and create. The volunteers painted the room and furniture and decorated it according to the colour scheme. The volunteers also added and categorised an exceptional collection of books to the shelves. We are proud of their efforts!

Ilm Public School

This project was conducted as part of the LSU Community Service Initiative Summer Cycle 2024 by Kaavish Foundation, one of LSU's partner organizations. The project engaged LSU volunteers in developing a library at a school vetted by Kaavish Foundation's team. The group of volunteers came together to collect funds and books for the library as well as plan the library set up under Kaavish Foundation's guidance. Once the planning was done, they spent one day at the school to categorise the books, paint the room, and decorate it. We were absolutely thrilled to see the doodles on the walls that were inspired by one of LSU's libraries in Islamabad that was set up in 2022! The library is an incredible effort by the volunteers, and we are really excited for the students to experience it.
